Ceramic Tile and Alcohol Ink "Walkin' on Sunshine" Sign

Image
Last week I shared a ceramic tile sign that I made . It went so well, that I made another alcohol inked ceramic tile with a decal on it.  I cut the designs for this week and last week (and one I made a couple of weeks ago ) all at the same time to fill the 12-inch cutting mat. I made a design with a clipart sun and a song lyric from a fun upbeat song. The tricky part was learning how to wrap the text around the sun on a curve . But I managed to figure it out. I cut the designs on permanent black glossy vinyl using standard settings on my old Silhouette Cameo . After the designs were cut, I separated them from each other using scissors and then weeded the designs with a weeding pick tool .  I gathered up some sunshine colors in  yellow and orange alcohol   inks and prepped my surface with a craft mat . I started with some of the lighter colors (yellows) to get a base of color on the tile. I used a hand bulb blower and thinned the ink with rubbing alcohol to move ...

Don't Hurry Be Happy Sloth Tile Sign

Image
A few weeks ago, I made a ceramic tile sign combining alcohol ink with a decal cut on my old Silhouette Cameo . It turned out so well, that I made another. When I made my last ceramic tile sign, I cut out a few different patterns out of the black vinyl to fill the 12-inch square cutting mat. Today's design was based on one that I found while doing some Googling. I found a similar design and then decided to make my own version of it. I found a free (for personal use) clipart sloth and layered the text over top of it in the Silhouette Design Studio. I cut it using standard vinyl settings and cut the designs apart from each other with scissors. I removed the excess vinyl with a weeding tool and set aside the vinyl. Then I pulled out my alcohol ink supplies and a 6-inch ceramic tile (picked up at the hardware store). I wanted the sloth to look like he was up in the trees so I selected a couple of shades of bright green and sky blue alcohol inks to cover the tile. I started out w...

Alcohol Ink Ceramic Tile and Vinyl Decal

Image
I've been on a Silhouette sign kick these days, but I thought I'd shake things up a bit and get back to alcohol inking, too. I purchased some 6-inch ceramic tiles from the hardware store and decided they'd be the perfect medium for combining two of my favorite crafting obsessions. I found a design that I thought would work well on a tile with some fun colors behind it in my Silhouette library full of freebie designs. I tossed a few other designs up there to fill the cutting mat and keep from having leftover vinyl cuts. I used the standard glossy vinyl settings for some permanent black vinyl on my old Silhouette Cameo . After the designs were cut on the Silhouette, I used scissors to separate the design from the others on the cutting mat and then got out my weeding tool . This one ended up having flowers that were super tiny. I tried my best to weed the whole design, but because I was working on a smaller-sized decal, I ended up having to give up on weeding the smallest of ...

First Impressions: T-rex Alcohol Ink Warm and Cool Tone Sets

Image
Several months ago, I bought the Warm and Cool Tone T-Rex Alcohol Ink sets after I had the joy of trying out the base set . They were lovely, so I was excited to try more. After several months of the sealed boxes sitting with my other alcohol inks, I finally got a chance to take them out and see if they were as nice as the base set . I got out the inks, a craft mat , some 4 inch ceramic tiles , a hand bulb blower , and some 90% rubbing alcohol . Each set comes with 12 inks (11 colors and 1 metallic ink). The Warm Tone set has a lot of browns, so I'll probably use the Cool Tone set more, but there's some nice pinks and reds in the warm set, too. Just like with the base set, the colored lids are not a good match to the colors in the bottles, but there's a photo on the top of the box that's fairly accurate for each color. As is tradition when testing new inks, I dripped one drop of an aqua colored ink from the set and see how it moves without any blending solution or air...
