Alcohol Inked Metal Sign

Image
If you follow the blog, you know I've been on a sign kick, but I really wanted to get some Alcohol Inking in. Truth be told, the first time I saw these metal sign blanks at Dollar Tree, I thought about inking them. I've made a bunch of signs out of these metal sign blanks , but this is the first time I followed my initial instinct and inked one of them. Over the last two weeks, I've been making signs out of a sheet of white vinyl I cut with several designs. This week's design was from my library of freebie designs. I used the standard settings for vinyl on my old Silhouette Cameo , but I upped the force to 11 because the Silhouette-branded vinyl is quite thick. After the designs were cut, I separated each design with scissors. When I was ready to work on this project, I got out my weeding tool and removed the excess vinyl. The tiny letters at the top were a bit of a pain when I was pulling off the exterior vinyl, but the rest of the design weeded easily. So now it&#

Beginner Friendly Silhouette Cameo Welcome Sign Project

Image
The inspiration for this project was a cute sign blank from Dollar Tree. When I saw the black sign with the checked fabric border in the craft aisle, I immediately thought it was adorable and needed some white vinyl. Last week, I cut a bunch of designs out of a square of white vinyl. I used one of the designs to make last week's house-shaped sign . While I was adding designs from my library of free Silhouette designs, I made the welcome graphic by using the text icon to type "welcome" and then changing the text's font until I found one I liked.  To create a cut pattern out of text in Design Studio: After you've selected your font, highlight the text and right-click. Then select "weld." The weld option connects parts of the design together for cutting. Sometimes after welding text, it will separate the text into several sections. If that happens, you can highlight and select "group."  After the text has been welded and grouped, you can move it a

Dollar Tree Vinyl Decal House-Shaped Sign

Image
Dollar Tree has these cute sign blanks shaped like houses . I already made a couple of signs with the black house signs, but I picked a brown one up the last time I was at Dollar Tree so I needed to make yet another sign. I filled a 12x12 template with a bunch of designs to cut out of some white vinyl . I chose "Happiness is Homemade" for the house-shaped sign. I found a design on FreePik to trace.  I set the whole works to cut using the standard settings (but bumped up the force to 11 instead of 10 because the Silhouette brand vinyl I was using is quite thick) on my old Silhouette Cameo . I cut the decals in sections with scissors and grabbed my weeding tool . I removed the excess vinyl from the design with my weeding tool. I cut a square of transfer tape the size of my design. I applied the transfer tape to the decal and rubbed it down. I peeled the paper backing off the decal, placed it onto the sign, and rubbed it down. Then I peeled the transfer tape off of the decal. Ceramic Tile and Alcohol Ink "Walkin' on Sunshine" Sign

Image
Last week I shared a ceramic tile sign that I made . It went so well, that I made another alcohol inked ceramic tile with a decal on it.  I cut the designs for this week and last week (and one I made a couple of weeks ago ) all at the same time to fill the 12-inch cutting mat. I made a design with a clipart sun and a song lyric from a fun upbeat song. The tricky part was learning how to wrap the text around the sun on a curve . But I managed to figure it out. I cut the designs on permanent black glossy vinyl using standard settings on my old Silhouette Cameo . After the designs were cut, I separated them from each other using scissors and then weeded the designs with a weeding pick tool .  I gathered up some sunshine colors in  yellow and orange alcohol   inks and prepped my surface with a craft mat . I started with some of the lighter colors (yellows) to get a base of color on the tile. I used a hand bulb blower and thinned the ink with rubbing alcohol to move the ink around the
